About

Influenced by the great artists of Dada, Surrealism and impelled by the artisans of the Urban Art scene, Jova Durán beckons you to embark into his mind’s eye. Once inside there is a collective sensation between the surreal and the real apparent within his work. This surrealism can be seen within brushstrokes, vibrant color, interesting juxtaposition of images and witty text often times taken from everyday life.

Jova engages in painting on everyday life surfaces, many of which are assembled from salvaged materials. His work manifests itself as a reaction to alienation from the creative act in a culture that outsources the majority of its material production.

Jova is well aware of the advantages of using graphic software to create solutions at a faster pace to accommodate the needs of the client. His design work does not escape the use of simple materials and the elaborate palette used in his artwork. He likes staying true to something that he holds a great passion for and always finds a way to incorporate something hand-made into his design projects.

In early 2011, Jova along with his artistic partner Ruben Aguirre Jr will be further developing a project founded in October 2009 by the name of The Beer Run Gallery.
